StocksandGreen
This is an enchanting little European native, often found growing wild, especially on well-drained, chalky soils. Its a particularly delicate plant, best cultivated on its own or near less vigorous varieties that might compete with it. It will die back in winter but self-seeds freely, so avoid cutting back until early spring. Flowers June to August. Planting sow under glass February April, gently pressing the seeds to the surface of seed compost. Do not cover, because light is essential for germination. Provide adequate ventilation once germination has occurred, to avoid damping off. Transplant the seedlings to pots and grow on in cooler conditions when large enough to handle. Aftercare cut back after flowering to encourage a second show and to avoid unwanted self-seeding. Apply a mulch of leaf mould once a year. Eventual height & spread 30 25cms.
