StocksandGreen
A wonder, highly productive winter vegetable, this selection has violet leaves that can be picked young for use in salads or steamed or sauted like winter greens. Fully hardy, this kale will weather the harshest of winters. Harvest September to February. Planting sow under glass all year round for a steady supply of young kale salad leaves. For an early start sow January March for planting out May July. Sow 2 seeds per module, and thin out the weaker seedling. Transplant when large enough. Alternatively, plant outdoors March June, sowing sparingly into drills 1.5cm deep in a well-prepared seed bed. Thin out young plants to 45cms. For mature plants, transplant into rich, fertile soil at 60cms spacing, and use horticultural fleece to protect from insects and birds. Aftercare harvest lower leaves first and work up the plant. Eventual height & spread 90 60cms.
