StocksandGreen
This dainty native perennial often grows wild in well-drained grassland. Pale lilac in colour, it flowers from summer to autumn and is very attractive to bees and butterflies. Lovely in the garden, it also makes a fine cut flower with a long vase life. Flowers February to May. Planting exposure to winter cold is essential for germination, so plant in situ September November for germination the following spring. Sow seeds 6mm deep in drills 30cm apart, in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Keep generously watered and thin out to 50cms spacing. Alternatively sow under glass February May, into moist seed compost, 2mm deep. When big enough, transplant seedlings into pots and acclimatise before planting out into final positions. Prefers alkaline soils. Aftercare cut flowers often to encourage further blooms. Allow late flowers to mature and set seed. Eventual height & spread 120 50cms.
